The structure seems to embrace visitors in an atmosphere of tranquility and spirituality. Unlike many modernized temples, Mia Pagoda retains its original simplicity, making it a rare gem among Vietnam’s sacred sites.

Why Visit Mia Temple on Your Duong Lam Village Day Tour?
1. Getting to Know About the Legend of Lady Chua Mia
Mia Pagoda is not just a place of worship—it’s also home to a fascinating legend. The pagoda’s beauty and grandeur today are attributed to Lady Chua Mia, whose real name was Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dao. She was a woman of great wisdom and grace from Duong Lam, who later became the consort of Lord Trinh Trang.
The story goes that when Lord Trinh Trang visited this area, all the villagers respectfully cleared the way to welcome him—except for one young woman who seemed oblivious to this event, too busy cutting grass. As she worked, she sang a verse:
“Holding the crescent moon with grace
Balancing affairs of the nation and home.”
The lord was surprised by her calm gestures and by the deeper meaning hidden in her simple verses —not to mention, he was likely captivated by her beauty. He summoned her for a conversation and took note of her presence. Even after returning to the capital, he could not forget the girl from Duong Lam with the graceful posture, sweet voice, and profound words. He later issued an order to bring Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dao to the royal court. The local officials of Duong Lam were terrified upon receiving the decree—was the lord planning to punish the girl for her verse? Fearing that they might be implicated, they secretly warned her family and forced them to flee the village. Ngoc Dao and her mother, frightened, sought refuge in another village.
However, after a series of misunderstandings, she was eventually brought to the royal palace, where she became the consort of Lord Trinh Trang.Even after becoming a noble woman, Ngoc Dao never forgot her homeland. She contributed to her village in many ways—expanding Mia Ferry, building Mia Market, encouraging locals to raise silkworms and weave fabric, and promoting the production of local delicacies such as “che lam” (a sticky rice and ginger snack), soya sauce & traditional sweets. Most notably, in 1632, she restored the village pagoda, transforming it into the magnificent Mia Pagoda we see today.

After Ngoc Dao’s passing, the villagers honored her as “Lady Chua Mia” out of their deep admiration and gratitude. To commemorate his beloved wife, Lord Trinh Trang had a small temple built on the exact site of her former home. That temple still stands today, nearly unchanged, adorned with vibrant and intricate decorations. The villagers call it Phu Temple. On full moon days, many people from the area come to offer incense and seek blessings from Lady Chua Mia.
2. Mia Pagoda – A Spiritual and Artistic Heritage
Mia temple is home to an impressive collection of 287 ancient statues, the largest of any pagoda in Vietnam. These include wooden, bronze, and earthen sculptures, with highlights such as the Tuyet Son (Snow Mountain) statue, the Guan Yin Bringing a Child statue, and the Dharma Protectors.
