Historical Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, Vietnam
When the French colony dominated Vietnam, they set up the square and named it Puginier Round Point garden, also known as Round Square. After the success of General Revolution in August 1945, it was renamed Ba Dinh square to memorize the uprising against the French of Dinh Cong Trang rebellion that occurred in Ba Dinh area, Nga Son district, Thanh Hoa Province ( 1886-1887).

If Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam, Ba Dinh Square is the warm heart of Hanoi capital. It did witness a lot of the nation’s important historical events. At this square, on 2nd September 1945, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence to a crowd of half million Vietnamese people to give a birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam). That was a historical & happy moment for Vietnamese to cheer up the nation’s independence & unity ending the French’s colonial domination of nearly 100 years and the Japanese cruel fascism of almost 5 years. Also at this square, the funeral of President Ho Chi Minh was organized in 24 years later, in 1969. International delegates and Vietnamese garthered here to mourn & cry to send off Uncle Ho- their great leader. Then this square was chosen by in-power Vietnamese government as a site to construct Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum as a final resting place of President Ho Chi Minh so that our great father can be forever remembered.

Nowadays, Ba Dinh square is the place that the nation annually hold the celebrations of the national day – 2nd September with military parades, commemoration of veterans, meeting....Also here on daily basic, you can experience impressive moments of flag raising and lowering ceremony at 6am and 9pm everyday with excited orchestra and national anthem ferformed by militery solders in white uniforms.Interestingly, despite its solemnity during the moment of flag salutation rituals, the square is then back again a popular gathering place for the locals: families who want a walk, elderly who want to exercise and friends who want to hang out.
