Vietnam weather & its main climate regions
Diverse topography in different regions has created different climates from the north to the south. Thus, there are two climate regions in Vietnam divided by Hai Van Pass : the North of tropical monsoon climate and the South of tropical climate
The North is featured with tropical monsoon climate of four distinct seasons including spring (Feb-April), Summer (May- Mid-Sep), Autumn( Mid-Sep- Nov) and Winter (Nov to Jan). The continental climate character of the North is clearer than that in the South, particularly in winter from November to March, when northeastern monsoon is active, the weather becomes cold and dry. The lowest temperature can be experienced in December and January. On some high mountains in the North such as Sapa, Mau Son, Hoang Lien …etc, the temperature can sometimes be decreased to 0°C with snow

In the South, tropical cilmate is more typical with two separate seasons : dry season (between May and November and rainy season (between December of this year to April of the following year). The South climate is less affected by monsoon operations due to high Truong Son mountain ranges preventing cold winds from making its further influences to the South. The temperature in the South does not fluctuate much with its average one of 33°C and remains high all year round.
Beside climate division between the North and the South, the climate also has differences between lowland and highland areas as given structure of terrain. This forms sub-climate regions like Sapa (Lao Cai Province), Da Lat (Lam Dong Province) with temperate climate of pleasant & cool weather all the year around.
