Excellent driver Mr.Hoa from Golden Holidays Hanoi Although speaks just very little English but he did a good job for us in this two days driving from Viet Tri to Sapa and back to Hanoi airport. He is always on time with smile on his face. We feel comfortable with him in this trip. Great cab service for Vietnam Found the cab services I used to be very good. I had taken up a multi day multi destination package from Hanoi and the overall experience was really nice. Their cars are good and the drivers have excellent driving skills. Although the driver wasn't fluent in English (which most drivers won't be in Vietnam), they had an excellent backend support via phone/whatsapp/viber which works seamlessly and have on time response to any query. 14 day private driver, guide and van touring beautiful non tourist areas in the North My family and I just finished an incredible 14 day tour of the beautiful rice terraced farmlands and mountainous regions of Northern Vietnam with Golden Holiday Travel. They were very easy to communicate with via E-mail. I told them what I was interested in seeing and they helped me plan an unforgettable off the beaten tour. We had a great private guide Vu who took us on beautiful treks and gave us information on the areas we visited and a super safe driver Nam who expertly maneuvered his way through the crazy winding narrow roads. We could have never done this on our own and it was good to have an English speaking guide to help with the day to day activities as no one spoke English in the areas we visited. Golden Holiday Travel and Vu also helped with the homestay and hotel arrangements towards the second half of the trip where I could not find descent places to stay on my own via the internet and all the places they chose were spectacular. Next time I would just have them make all our homestay arrangements as they are experts in the area. We stayed at a different location every night as we wanted to cover a lot of ground and boy did we. There is sooooo much more to see in the North other than Sapa and with few to no tourists around. Rental car with driver to Sapa Golden Holiday Travel was very easy to deal with. I was travelling with my husband and we arranged a car and driver to take us to Sapa from Hanoi. Communication before and during our trip was easy and very responsive. The driver was also available during our stay to take us to see some of the local attractions. Mr Hung, our driver, looked after us very well. We didn’t speak Vietnamese and Mr Hung spoke a little English but we communicated very well using google translate. Easy to book, reliable and friendly drivers We booked several rides - to a friend's wedding outside Hanoi and then r/t to Halong Bay - because we wanted a car seat for our 15 month old. This agency was very easy to communicate with and very responsive. Cars and infant seat were in good condition and the drivers were friendly. Good to rent a car + driver to Ninh Binh for a day We chose to rent a car instead of taking one of the day tour packages, for its flexibility. Visited Mua Caves, Bai Dinh, and Trang An for a reasonable price. Mr. Ban was very helpful and communicative - he answered our emails promptly and even provided a WA number in case of emergencies. Our driver, Mr. Hai, could not speak english but understood us just fine. He picked us up on time, drove well, and recommended a good restaurant for lunch. Travel Agent We booked our airport transfer, and transfers from Hanoi to Halong Bay and on to Ninh Binh with Golden Holiday. Our driver was Mr. Kiem, young guy, very friendly and helpful, even though his English is almost non-existent. We had absolutely no problem with him and he was very attentive and really took care of us. In Ninh Binh, Mr. Van was assigned to us as our guide and we learned a lot from him about the history of the first two dynasties based in Hoa Lu. He also recommended that we do the Tam Coc tour instead of Trang An as we were in time for the harvest season. After the tour, he accompanied my nephews on a biking tour to Bich Dong Pagoda, while my sister and I went with Mr. Kiem (in the airconditioned van) to the pagoda and had ice coffee there while waiting for them. It was a really great day for everyone. However, when we were in Hanoi, we also hired through Golden Holidays at the last minute, a car for our DYI tour of the city after we decided we would not last long walking in the heat. Mr Ban assigned to us a driver called Mr. Quang. This driver was very brusque. He did not speak English and misunderstood me when I said we wanted to go first to the Ethnology Museum and then the Temple of Literature. He kept saying temple, temple and brought us to some painted temple by a lake far away from the city center, then insisted we get down and go to this temple. I told him no, we want to go first to the museum. He did not look happy about this and I noticed that he then drove very very slowly - about 30 kilometers/hour. Bicycles overtook us, other cars honked at us. Because of this, we arrived late at the museum and missed getting an English speaking guide, so we toured the museum on our own. I texted Mr. Ban to assign a new driver for us but I guess it was not possible, so we ended up with this driver for the rest of the day, enduring his slow driving and surly face. Other than this, we would recommend Golden Holidays for transportation and tours. Their rates are reasonable and Mr. Ban organizes everything very well. Supposed to be one-star, but... This was supposed to be a one-star review, but I'm giving it two stars because the sales manager Ban had put in a lot of effort to keep things one step away from being an absolute nightmare. We got Golden Holiday to arrange for a driver to take us to and from Ba Vi National Park. He picked us up from our hotel and we set off at 930am. The park is about one-and-a-half hours away from Hanoi by car and we were supposed to reach at 11am. After an hour on the road, at 1030am, the driver started using his phone a lot — he began texting away furiously and making and answering a lot of calls. This was horrifying because when he lost focus he drove very dangerously and constantly swerved left and right. Traffic in Hanoi is notoriously insane and the highways aren't much better, not when a cement truck of sorts passes you every other minute, so we became very concerned. We did a quick search on Google maps and found out that he went the wrong way. So basically, after travelling an hour, we were two hours away from our destination. As mentioned, it was only supposed to take an hour-and-a-half to get there. It didn't help that the bloke largely refused to turn his AC on though it was a very hot day and we got real sweaty in the car. He also didn't speak a word of English, but we figured that he'd realised his mistake, thus the flurry of calls and texts. So then we had to turn around. The driver supposedly brought no extra cash and had paid for the toll (the wrong one) before, so he asked us for money. We weren't supposed to pay for any toll fees. It isn't so much the fee that was the issue, but the principle. Ba Vi National Park is up a mountain and it's a windy road up. As if all that he put us through wasn't appalling enough, he showed that he was an unconfident driver with no adequate skills. Not only did the car stall non-stop at one point up the mountain, it also kept rolling backwards because he was too afraid to accelerate. We were seriously very confused and stressed out about how and why he was appointed a driver. It should also be said that at no point did he seem apologetic. We finally reached the park at 1pm — a great delay that caused us a lot of inconvenience because instead of hiking two routes we could only do one. We noticed before getting out of the car that the car was low on petrol and that there'd be no way we'd be able to make it to Hanoi with that amount, so I texted Ban to ask him to get the driver to fuel up. We met the driver again at 3pm to make our way back to the city. Though we were really annoyed by his incompetence, we tried to extend some kindness and bought him a drink. It however wasn't reciprocated. We noticed that he had pumped some petrol, but not completely. All seemed to be going well at first and we thought that maybe all the bad stuff was behind us... until he stopped at a petrol station and demanded that we foot the bill. I was PISSED, because by now he was clearly taking us as fools despite being the worst service provider. I texted Ban and Ban immediately got in touch with him. There was a lot of back and forth between them but long story short, Ban refunded us one-third of the amount we paid for the trip because of all the distress and delay and also refunded us the money for the petrol. The one thing I have to commend is Ban's contactability — he was a fast responder and always made sure to contact the driver the moment something went wrong again. He provided great service recovery and never once shirked responsibility. Once we hit the busy highway, the driver started driving like a maniac again and we seriously feared for our lives. Plus, it was rush-hour traffic. And just when we thought it couldn't get any worse, he actually took a huge detour to go back to the city (we had our eyes on Google Maps the entire time). He actually drove the long way to stop at what looked like his wife's shop to collect something from her, and what should have taken us one-and-a-half hours took us two-and-a-half. In short, we were supposed to spend a total of three hours in the car that day but ended up spending six. All for a two-hour hike in a park — and we couldn't even explore it fully because of him. We appreciated the partial refund but we'd have been happier if they took our money and provided a smooth-sailing trip. Ban is a great manager, but with a driver like that, it's definitely not worth the risk.To say it was a harrowing experience doesn't even cut it. If you do decide to go with them, at least make sure that 1) you get Ban's WhatsApp number 2) you ask for a driver that has driven the route several times 3) also ask for someone with some sort of integrity.
