Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, a day trip to Mai Chau is highly rewarding if you want to experience Northern Vietnam’s mountain landscapes and ethnic cultures but have limited time. Located about 140km west of Hanoi, the journey takes roughly 3.5 hours each way. By starting early, you get a full 5 hours in the valley—plenty of time to cycle through traditional villages, enjoy an authentic local lunch, and take in the panoramic mountain views.
The tour features three core highlights: a scenic stop at the spectacular Thung Khe Pass (White Stone Pass) for breathtaking valley photos; a leisurely cycling tour through the traditional stilt-house villages of Lac and Pom Coong; and a deep dive into the White Thai ethnic culture, including an authentic lunch prepared by a local family
The activities on this day tour are easy and suitable for all fitness levels, including families with children and seniors. Unlike the steep, rugged terraces of Sapa, the valley floor of Mai Chau is completely flat. The cycling routes follow quiet, paved village paths with no traffic, allowing for a relaxed, leisurely ride through the rice paddies.
Golden Holiday Travel provides high-end, comfortable transportation to ensure the 3.5-hour journey is relaxing. Travelers with go with a private car with a professional driver. Our vehicles travel via the new expressway and scenic mountain roads, making the transit a beautiful part of the adventure.
We recommend wearing lightweight, breathable clothing and comfortable walking shoes or sneakers for cycling. Bring a light jacket, as the temperature at Thung Khe Pass and in the valley can be cooler than in Hanoi, especially in the morning or winter months. Don’t forget sunscreen, a sun hat, insect repellent, and your camera or smartphone for photos.

Vietnam is a year-round destination, offering diverse weather patterns across its different regions. In general, spring (February to April) and autumn (September to December) are considered the most comfortable times to visit, thanks to pleasant temperatures, lower humidity, and less rainfall.
As Vietnam stretches over 1,600 km from north to south, the climate can vary greatly depending on where you travel:
- Northern Vietnam: Experiences four distinct seasons, with cool and sometimes chilly winters (December to February) and hot, humid summers (May to August).
- Central Vietnam: Usually enjoys warm weather, though the rainy season typically occurs between September and November.
- Southern Vietnam: Has a tropical climate with warm temperatures throughout the year, alongside occasional tropical showers during the rainy season from May to October.

If your journey includes a connecting domestic flight within Vietnam, please keep the following information in mind upon arrival:

- Proceed to the domestic terminal for your onward flight. At some airports, this may involve a short walk or shuttle transfer between terminals.
- Airport staff are usually available to assist passengers, so feel free to ask for directions or support if needed.
Recommended connection time: at least 2 hours 30 minutes
This allows enough time for immigration clearance, baggage collection, customs procedures, terminal transfers, and possible flight delays.
Practical Tip: At major airports such as Noi Bai International Airport and Tan Son Nhat International Airport, international and domestic terminals may be located in separate buildings. Please follow airport signage carefully and allow sufficient transfer time.
